Fellowship Overview

The Chevening Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies Fellowship offers mid-career professionals and academics from selected countries the opportunity to conduct self-directed research on Islamic culture, civilisation, and contemporary Muslim societies at OCIS in Oxford.

This fellowship enables six mid-career professionals and academics to undertake self-directed research at OCIS, focusing on topics such as Islamic history, classical Islamic sciences, economics and Islamic finance, public health, science and technology in the Muslim world, and the study of Muslims in the West.

Fellows benefit from access to world-class academic resources, mentorship, and opportunities for intercultural dialogue and intellectual exchange, while developing enhanced leadership skills and policy insight relevant to global challenges and interfaith dialogue.

The fellowship has a duration of five months, running from October to March, and is hosted in residence at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies. Each fellowship includes living expenses for the duration of the fellowship, return economy airfare, and an allowance package for research-related activities.

Applicants must be citizens and residents of one of the specified eligible countries, hold a postgraduate qualification or equivalent professional experience, and have at least five years of significant professional and/or academic research experience.

Applicants are required to submit a short research proposal outlining their main research question and methodology, and participate in a two-stage interview process involving British embassies/high commissions and OCIS representatives.
